This page explains what retention actually means at REMAP and the document that drives it. Current
direction; for the operational reporting cadence, see the check-in & reporting SOP.
Retention isn't held together by the contract — it's held together by the client continuously
feeling the value. The monthly value document is the main instrument for that, and its entire job
is one feeling: "these guys made real impact, and I was hardly involved."
Every month, the client receives a value document. There's a single bar it has to clear:
💡 "Wow — these guys made real impact, and I was hardly involved."
That's the whole test. The document's job is to make the client feel actively worked-for, not
simply billed. It's the difference between an invoice landing against "what did I get?" and
landing against "look at everything they did."
In practice it recaps what was built, the estimated worth of each piece, and the total value
created that month — framed toward an ROI statement ("roughly $30,000 of value this month against
your $5,000 fee"). But the feeling is the point, not the format: worked-for, not billed.
Here's a specific and important principle about how the monthly document works: don't blend the
value recap with the upsell.
It's tempting to fold "here's what else you could buy" into the value report. REMAP deliberately
doesn't — because blending them dilutes the value recap into a sales pitch, and undermines the
exact feeling the document exists to create.
So the two are separate touches:
| Touch | Purpose | Timing |
|---|---|---|
| The value recap | Purely what was done, what's next — no selling | The monthly document |
| The catalogue proposal | "Here's what else is available" — its own distinct conversation | A follow-up, a couple of days later |
The catalogue follow-up can be supported by short video or podcast content — but it stands on its
own, as a "what else is available" conversation, never as a rider on the value report.
💡 The logic: a value recap that's secretly a sales pitch isn't a value recap. Keep the impact
story clean; sell separately.
🟡 Floated, not yet built.
An emerging idea: a quarterly upvoting mechanism inside the Intelligence Tool, so clients can
signal interest in catalogue items directly — rather than always waiting to be asked. It flips
part of the upsell from push to pull: the client tells REMAP what they want next.
Retention isn't only about what REMAP does. It also depends on the client engaging and responding
promptly.
The healthy state is a client who's responsive — so REMAP isn't constantly having to re-justify
its value to a disengaged counterpart. A client who's gone quiet and unresponsive is harder to
retain not because the work stopped, but because the value can't land on someone who isn't paying
attention.
So "good retention" means two things together: REMAP delivering visible value and the client
actively engaging with it. (This connects to client fit — see
Who We Take On — since an engaged, well-fit client is far easier to
retain.)
